How To Eliminate Shoulder and Neck Pain and Stiffness Without Medications, Surgery, Or Skipping Your Workouts!

Few things are more annoying than when things are going really well in the gym, only for shoulder or neck pain to appear out of nowhere and stop you in your tracks. When this happens, you think to yourself “Oh man, this really hurts, but I’m sure it’ll feel better by tomorrow.”

You go to bed later that night, only to wake up the next morning, but the pain is still there. It continues to bug you for several weeks, and now you can barely lift your arm over your head, let alone try to bench press or overhead press, without experiencing the pain.

Naturally, you go to the doctor’s office and they tell you to ice it and rest it, and to stop benching, snatching, and pressing because those things are “bad for your shoulders,” and they might even give you some anti-inflammatories and pain medication. Even though you don’t want to stop exercising, you do it because it’s what they recommended.

Eventually your shoulder or neck start to feel a little better, so you feel like you’re ready to start lifting again. Unfortunately, once you start to get back into it, the pain suddenly starts again, and you’re left frustrated and unsure of what to do.

This is the vicious cycle that many people find themselves in.

Your shoulder or neck hurts, so you see a healthcare provider and take their advice to rest it and stop training, and your injury starts to feel better. Unfortunately, you may have lost some strength, muscle mass, conditioning etc, and you haven’t done anything to truly resolve what’s going on in your neck or shoulder. Once it starts to feel better, you try to start training again, only for the pain to return, and the cycle starts all over again. This is something that so many of our clients have experienced before they have come to see us.

How Are We Different?

What our clients find is that when they come to see us, they actually get a customized plan that helps get their shoulder/neck feeling better and stronger at the same time. Because of this, when their pain is resolved and they return to their normal training, they are able to do so without their pain coming back.

What Other People Just Like You Are Saying About Barbell Physical Therapy & Performance In New Haven...

“I started working with Ryan when pain in my shoulder was impacting my ability to carry my 2 yrs old son. He listened to my concerns and explained that the goal wasn’t to need months and months of PT, but to incorporate exercises into my daily routine that would allow me to do the things I care about – hold my son without pain and continue to lift and gain strength. He told me he thought I would only need 4-6 sessions. After the first session I noticed an improvement and after 6 sessions not only did I no longer experience pain carrying my son, but I now have the tools I need if I do experience pain in the future. He doesn’t try to create dependency like other PTs I have seen in the past. He is very knowledgeable and realistic about expectations. I highly recommend Ryan and if I ever need a PT in the future I will 100% contact him. Thank you Ryan for all the help!!”

“I somehow injured my first rib during the summer of 2020. I pushed off any treatment until February of 2021, when it got to the point where I could not turn my neck to back out of a parking spot. My barbell coach referred me to Barbell PT, which was great because I did not know any at the time. My therapist at Barbell PT was great! Within 1 week I started to have more mobility, felt less pain and was sleeping better. By the end of the program my neck and shoulders felt the best they have in years. I strongly recommend Barbell PT, the facility is on point, the therapists are knowledgeable, friendly, and take there work seriously, and the best part is they work around your schedule.”
